- In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and the packet of taco seasoning. Use a fork or an electric mixer on low speed to blend these two ingredients until they are thoroughly combined and the seasoning is evenly distributed throughout the cream cheese. This forms the rich, savory foundation of your dip.8 ounce package cream cheese, softened, 1 ounce packet taco seasoning
- To the cream cheese mixture, add the 1/4 cup of sour cream and the 1/4 cup of your favorite salsa. Continue to mix or whip until the ingredients are smoothly incorporated, creating a wonderfully creamy and flavorful dip base. Taste at this point and adjust seasoning if desired, though the taco seasoning usually provides plenty of flavor.1/4 cup sour cream, 1/4 cup salsa (your favorite kind)
- Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly into a shallow baking dish or an oven-safe serving dish. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese (or Mexican blend) generously over the top of the cream cheese mixture, ensuring good coverage.1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or a Mexican blend)
- Place the dish in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C). Bake for approximately 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted, bubbly, and slightly golden around the edges. The aroma will be incredible!
- Once the dip is out of the oven, you can immediately add your favorite toppings. This might include a scattering of fresh chopped green onions for a mild oniony bite, diced ripe tomatoes for a fresh crunch, sliced black olives for a briny tang, or jalapeños for a spicy kick. If you're adding pre-cooked ground meat, you can stir it in now or layer it on top before the cheese.chopped green onions, diced tomatoes, black olives, jalapeños, crumbled cooked ground beef or turkey
- Let the dip cool for a few minutes before serving. It's best served warm, with tortilla chips, vegetable sticks (like celery, bell peppers, or carrots), or even crackers for dipping.
Notes
This dip can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Reheat in the microwave or oven. It can also be frozen, though the texture may change slightly upon thawing.
