Ingredients

  • 2-3 ripe bananas sliced into 1/2-inch thick rounds
  • 1 cup semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips dairy-free if needed
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil optional, for smoother melting
Toppings of your choice

Equipment

  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment Paper or Silicone Baking Mat
  • Microwave-safe bowl
  • Spatula or back of a spoon
  • Airtight container or freezer-safe zip-top bag

Method

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. This will prevent the bark from sticking and make removal a breeze.
  2. Lay the banana slices in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Try to ensure they are not overlapping too much, though a little overlap is fine.
  3. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips and coconut oil (if using). Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well between each interval, until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth. Alternatively, you can melt the chocolate using a double boiler over low heat.
1 cup semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips, 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  4. Once smooth, pour or spread the melted chocolate evenly over the banana slices. Ensure all the banana pieces are well-coated. You can use a spatula or the back of a spoon to achieve this.
  5. While the chocolate is still wet and melty, sprinkle your chosen toppings generously over the chocolate-covered bananas. Get creative with combinations! From crunchy nuts and seeds to sweet dried fruit and a sprinkle of sea salt for that perfect sweet-and-salty contrast, the possibilities are endless.
  6. Carefully place the baking sheet into your freezer. Allow the bark to freeze for at least 1-2 hours, or until the chocolate is completely firm and solid.
  7. Once frozen solid, gently lift the parchment paper or silicone mat from the baking sheet. Break the Viral Chocolate Banana Bark into bite-sized pieces. Serve immediately and enjoy this delightful treat!

Notes

To store, transfer frozen pieces to an airtight container or freezer-safe zip-top bag. Individually wrapping pieces in parchment paper can prevent sticking. Can be stored for 1-2 months. Eaten straight from the freezer; allow to thaw for 1-2 minutes if too hard.
