Ingredients

Tea Base
  • 4 cups Water
  • 4 teabags Black Tea Strong brew like Assam or Ceylon recommended
  • 2 sticks Cinnamon Sticks Or 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground Cardamom Optional, for extra fragrance
Sweeteners and Milk
  • 1/4 cup Sweetened Condensed Milk Adjust to taste
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated Sugar Adjust based on preferred sweetness
  • 3/4 cup Milk Whole milk or oat milk works best

Method

Instructions
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the water, cinnamon sticks, and cardamom (if using). Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over medium-high heat.
  2. Once boiling, remove from heat immediately. Add the black tea bags to the hot water mixture and let it steep for 5 to 7 minutes for a strong, robust flavor. Remove and discard the tea bags.
  3. Return the saucepan to low heat. Stir in the granulated sugar until it is completely dissolved into the tea infusion. Do not let it boil again.
  4. Pour in the milk and the sweetened condensed milk. Stir continuously until the mixture is fully incorporated and heated through, about 2-3 minutes. Do not allow the mixture to boil once milk is added.
  5. Taste the tea and adjust sweetness or milk content as necessary.
  6. Carefully strain the milk tea through a fine-mesh sieve into serving mugs to remove the cinnamon sticks and any residual spice grounds. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

For a cold version, chill the strained tea completely, then serve over ice. If using ground cinnamon instead of sticks, reduce the amount to 1 teaspoon and add it during the initial water boil. The flavor deepens slightly upon standing.
