Ingredients

Strawberry Puree
  • 1/2 cup Fresh or frozen strawberries If frozen, thaw slightly
  • 1 teaspoon Granulated sugar or maple syrup Adjust to taste
  • 1 tablespoon Water
Matcha Base
  • 1 teaspoon Ceremonial grade matcha powder Sifted
  • 2 tablespoons Hot water (not boiling) About 175°F (80°C)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Maple syrup or sweetener Optional, for the matcha
Assembly
  • 3/4 cup Milk of choice Whole milk, oat milk, or almond milk suggested
  • 1 cup Ice cubes

Method

Instructions
  1. Prepare the Strawberry Puree: Combine strawberries, sugar/syrup, and water in a blender or use an immersion blender. Blend until completely smooth. Set aside.
  2. Prepare the Matcha: Sift the matcha powder into a small bowl or matcha bowl. Add the hot water (175°F/80°C) and the optional sweetener.
  3. Whisk the Matcha: Using a bamboo whisk (chasen) or a small electric frother, vigorously whisk the matcha until no lumps remain and a fine layer of foam appears on top.
  4. Assemble the Base: In a tall glass, add the ice cubes. Pour the strawberry puree evenly over the ice.
  5. Add Milk: Gently pour the milk over the strawberries, trying to keep the layers separate for visual appeal.
  6. Finish the Latte: Slowly drizzle the prepared matcha on top of the milk layer. Use the back of a spoon if necessary to maintain layering.
  7. Serve immediately, stirring the layers together just before drinking for the full flavor experience.

Notes

For the best presentation, ensure the strawberry puree is cold before assembling. If using frozen strawberries, ensure they are fully blended to avoid ice chunks in the puree.
