Ingredients

  • 1.5 - 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
  • 1 cup Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • to taste salt
  • to taste freshly ground black pepper
Optional garnishes
  • Fresh parsley optional
  • sesame seeds optional
  • red pepper flakes optional

Equipment

  • Slow Cooker
  • Medium Bowl
  • Paper towels
  • Forks (for shredding)

Method

  1. Pat your chicken breasts or thighs dry with paper towels. This helps with a better sear if you choose to sear them, though it's an optional step for extra flavor. Season both sides generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper. If using chicken breasts, you can pound them to an even thickness to ensure consistent cooking.

  2. In a medium bowl, combine the Dijon mustard, honey, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder. Whisk until all ingredients are well incorporated and the sauce is smooth and creamy. Taste the sauce and adjust seasonings if needed; you might prefer a little more honey for sweetness or a touch more vinegar for tang.
1 cup Dijon mustard, 1/2 cup honey, 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  3. Place the seasoned chicken into the bottom of your slow cooker. Pour the prepared honey mustard sauce evenly over the chicken, ensuring each piece is coated thoroughly.

  4. Cover the slow cooker and set it to cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours. The chicken is cooked through when it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) and is easily shreddable with a fork. Cooking on low for a longer duration will generally result in more tender chicken.
  5. Once cooked, you can either serve the chicken breasts or thighs whole, or use two forks to shred the chicken directly in the slow cooker, allowing it to soak up even more of the delicious sauce.
  6. Serve your Slow Cooker Honey Mustard Chicken hot, spooning extra sauce over the top. It pairs wonderfully with a variety of sides.
1 cup Dijon mustard, 1/2 cup honey, 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
