Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb Fresh Green Beans Trimmed
  • 4 slices Bacon Thick cut, chopped
  • 1/2 cup BBQ Sauce Your favorite sweet and smoky variety
  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar Packed
  • 1 tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon Onion Powder

Method

Instructions
  1. In a small skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and drain excess grease on a paper towel, reserving about 1 teaspoon of the bacon drippings in the skillet.
  2. Add the BBQ sauce, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and onion powder to the skillet with the reserved bacon drippings. Whisk well and heat gently until the sugar is dissolved, about 2 minutes. Remove from heat.
  3. Place the trimmed green beans into the basin of a small (2-3 quart) slow cooker.
  4. Pour the prepared BBQ sauce mixture evenly over the green beans. Stir gently to coat all the beans.
  5. Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 3 hours, or on HIGH for 1.5 to 2 hours, until the beans are tender but not mushy.
  6. Stir the beans well before serving. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Sprinkle the reserved crispy bacon pieces over the top before serving hot.

Notes

These beans are fantastic for potlucks or holiday gatherings as they hold heat wonderfully in the slow cooker. For a spicier kick, add 1/4 teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes to the sauce mixture.
