Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease an 8x8 inch baking dish or a small oven-safe skillet.
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and sour cream until smooth and fully incorporated. Ensure there are no lumps of cream cheese remaining.
- Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, Monterey Jack cheese, dried chives, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly distributed throughout the base.
- Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading it into an even layer. If using, sprinkle the optional crispy fried onions evenly over the top.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the dip is hot throughout and the cheese on top is melted and slightly bubbly around the edges.
- Let the dip cool for 5 minutes before serving warm with soft pretzels or sturdy dipping chips.
Notes
For an extra savory kick, you can add 1/4 cup of finely crumbled cooked bacon to the mixture before baking. This dip is best served warm directly from the oven.
