Ingredients

  • 1 pound bulk pork sausage mild or hot, your preference
  • 2 cups biscuit baking mix like Bisquick
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese sharp or mild
  • 1/4 cup milk optional, for a slightly softer ball

Equipment

  • Oven
  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment Paper or Silicone Baking Mat
  • Large mixing bowl

Method

  1. Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. This prevents sticking and makes cleanup a breeze, ensuring your Perfect Sausage Balls release effortlessly.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, add the pound of bulk pork sausage. Pour in the 2 cups of biscuit baking mix over the sausage. Sprinkle the 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.

  3. Using your hands (the best tool for this job!) or a sturdy spoon, gently mix all the ingredients together until they are just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can result in tougher sausage balls. If the mixture feels a bit too dry and crumbly, you can add the 1/4 cup of milk, incorporating it gently until the dough holds together.

  4. Once the mixture is ready, take about a tablespoon of the mixture and roll it between your palms to form balls, approximately 1 inch in diameter. Place each formed ball onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between them to ensure even cooking.
  5. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the sausage balls are golden brown on the outside and cooked through. The internal temperature should reach 160°F (71°C).
  6. Once baked, carefully remove the baking sheet from the oven. Let the Perfect Sausage Balls cool for a couple of minutes on the baking sheet before transferring them to a serving platter. They are best served warm.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Freeze for longer storage (up to 2-3 months). Reheat in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 8-10 minutes or microwave.
