- Prepare the orange zest. Using a vegetable peeler, carefully remove wide strips of zest from the orange, avoiding the white pith as much as possible.
- In a small saucepan, combine the water, cinnamon stick, and orange zest strips. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over medium-high heat.
- Once boiling, remove the saucepan from the heat. Add the black tea bags and let them steep for 4 to 5 minutes, depending on desired strength.
- Carefully remove and discard the tea bags and the orange zest strips. Stir in the milk and your chosen sweetener until fully dissolved.
- If serving hot, pour immediately into mugs. If serving cold, allow to cool slightly, then pour over ice.
- Garnish with a thin slice of fresh orange or a sprinkle of cinnamon, if desired, before serving.
Notes
For an enhanced flavor, you can gently simmer the water, zest, and cinnamon for 5 minutes before adding the tea bags to better infuse the citrus and spice oils. Do not over-steep the tea, as it can become bitter.
