Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup Nutella for stuffing (room temperature for easier dolloping)
Optional toppings
  • Chocolate chips optional
  • Chopped nuts optional
  • Sea salt sprinkle, optional

Equipment

  • 9x13 inch baking pan
  • Wire rack
  • Spatula
  • Tablespoon or small ice cream scoop

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan, or line it with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy lifting later. This ensures your Nutella stuffed brownie bites will lift out cleanly.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, all-purpose flour, and unsweetened cocoa powder. Ensure all the dry ingredients are well combined to create an even batter.
2 cups granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon baking powder, ½ teaspoon salt, 1 cup all-purpose flour, ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  3. Pour the melted butter into the dry ingredients. Whisk until just combined. Then, crack in the four large eggs, one at a time, whisking thoroughly after each addition until you have a smooth, glossy batter. Stir in the vanilla extract.
1 cup unsalted butter, 4 large eggs, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  4. Spoon about half of the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly to create a base layer for your Nutella stuffed brownie bites.
  5. Using a tablespoon or a small ice cream scoop, carefully dollop spoonfuls of the room temperature Nutella over the brownie batter in the pan. Try to distribute the Nutella evenly across the surface, leaving small gaps between each dollop. Ensure the Nutella is not too cold, as it will be harder to spread and might sink too much.
    1 cup Nutella
  6. Gently spoon the remaining brownie batter over the dolloped Nutella, making sure to cover each dollop completely. You can use a spatula or the back of a spoon to carefully spread the batter and create a smooth top layer. This is crucial for creating the surprise center in your Nutella stuffed brownie bites.
  7. If desired, sprinkle your favorite toppings over the final brownie batter layer. This could include extra chocolate chips for an even richer chocolate experience, chopped nuts for a delightful crunch, or a pinch of flaky sea salt to enhance the sweetness of the Nutella stuffed brownie bites.

  8. Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs attached (not wet batter). The baking time will vary depending on your oven, so keep an eye on them to prevent over-baking. You want fudgy, not dry, brownies.
  9. Once baked, remove the pan from the oven and let the brownies cool completely in the pan on a wire rack. This cooling period is essential for the Nutella to set and for the brownies to become firm enough to cut properly. Once cooled, use the parchment paper overhangs to lift the entire brownie slab out of the pan. Cut into bite-sized squares or rectangles for your Nutella stuffed brownie bites.
