Dip Ingredients
  • 1 (15.25 oz) box Yellow Cake Mix Do not use a 'just add water' mix, use dry mix only.
  • 4 oz Cream Cheese Softened to room temperature.
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter Softened to room temperature.
  • 1/4 cup Milk Whole milk recommended.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1/2 cup Rainbow Sprinkles Plus extra for garnish.
Serving Suggestions
  • Graham Crackers For dipping.
  • Pretzel Rods For dipping.
  • Fresh Fruit Slices e.g., Strawberries or apple slices.

Method

Instructions
  1. Prepare the cake mix: Since you are not baking, you must heat-treat the dry cake mix to safely eliminate potential bacteria. Spread the dry cake mix evenly on a microwave-safe plate.
  2. Microwave the cake mix in 30-second intervals, stirring well between each, until the mix reaches 165°F (74°C) internally. This usually takes about 1.5 to 2 minutes total. Allow the mix to cool completely.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, or the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream together the softened cream cheese and softened butter on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
  4. Gradually add the cooled, heat-treated cake mix to the butter mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.
  5. Pour in the milk and vanilla extract. Mix on low speed until the dip is smooth and creamy. Be careful not to overmix once the liquid is added.
  6. Gently fold in the 1/2 cup of rainbow sprinkles using a spatula until they are evenly distributed throughout the dip.
  7. Transfer the dip to a serving bowl, garnish with extra sprinkles, and serve immediately with your favorite dippers. Alternatively, chill for 30 minutes for a slightly firmer texture.

Notes

Ensure the cream cheese and butter are fully softened for the smoothest texture. If the dip seems too thick after adding the milk, add another splash until your desired consistency is reached. Do not skip the heat-treating step for safety.
