Method
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the almond flour, coconut flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder (if using). Ensure there are no clumps.2 cups Almond Flour, finely ground, 1/2 cup Coconut Flour, 2 teaspoons Baking Powder, 1 teaspoon Salt, 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder
- Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients. Pour in the melted butter or ghee, the beaten egg, and the warm water (or almond milk). If you're using Parmesan cheese, add it now as well.1/2 cup Melted Unsalted Butter or Ghee, 1 large Egg, lightly beaten, 1/2 cup Warm Water, 1/4 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese
- Gently stir and mix the ingredients until a cohesive dough forms. It should be thick but pliable, not overly sticky. If it seems too dry, add a tablespoon of water at a time until the desired consistency is reached. If it’s too wet, add a bit more almond flour.
- Divide the dough into 6-8 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball, then flatten it into a disc about 1/2 inch thick and 3-4 inches in diameter. You can use your hands or the bottom of a glass to create smooth edges.
- Place the formed arepas on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between them.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the arepas are golden brown and firm to the touch. They will puff up slightly.
- Allow the Keto Low Carb Arepas to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before handling. They are best served warm.
Notes
Store any leftover Keto Low Carb Arepas in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. For longer storage, you can freeze them. Once completely cooled, wrap individual arepas tightly in plastic wrap, then place them in a freezer-safe bag or container. They can be kept frozen for up to 2-3 months. To reheat, if refrigerated, you can simply warm them in a toaster oven or a dry skillet over medium heat for a few minutes until heated through. If frozen, you can reheat them directly from frozen in a toaster oven, or allow them to thaw slightly at room temperature before heating for best results. Avoid microwaving, as it can make them rubbery.
