Course: Beverage
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee or espresso, chilled
  • 1/2 cup milk of choice (dairy, almond, oat, soy – your preference!)
  • 1/4 cup pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup (or to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice (plus extra for garnish)
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Ice cubes
  • Whipped cream for serving (optional)

Equipment

  • Small Bowl
  • Whisk
  • Tall glass
  • Spoon or straw

Method

  1. Brew your coffee or espresso according to your usual method. Allow it to cool completely. If you prefer a stronger flavor, using espresso is recommended. If you don't have time to chill it, you can brew it extra strong and pour it directly over ice, though the chilling method ensures a less diluted drink.

  2. In a small bowl or directly in your serving glass, whisk together the chilled coffee (or espresso), pumpkin puree, maple syrup, pumpkin pie spice, and vanilla extract. Ensure the pumpkin puree is fully incorporated and the mixture is smooth. A good whisking here prevents any clumping and ensures an even distribution of flavors.
1 cup strong brewed coffee or espresso, chilled, 1/4 cup pumpkin puree, 2 tablespoons maple syrup, 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice, 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  3. Fill a tall glass generously with ice cubes. The more ice, the colder your latte will be! Pour the pumpkin-coffee mixture over the ice. Then, slowly pour in your milk of choice, filling the glass to your desired level.

  4. Gently stir the latte with a spoon or straw to combine the milk with the pumpkin and coffee mixture. This will create a beautiful creamy texture. Don't over-stir, as you want to maintain the layered look before it’s fully mixed.
  5. Top your Iced Pumpkin Spice Latte generously with whipped cream. For an extra touch of autumn magic, sprinkle a little extra pumpkin pie spice or a dash of cinnamon over the whipped cream. Enjoy immediately!

Notes

This Iced Pumpkin Spice Latte is best enjoyed immediately after preparation for optimal freshness and texture. If you find yourself with leftovers, you can store the un-iced pumpkin-coffee mixture in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. When you're ready to enjoy your leftover latte, simply pour the chilled mixture into a glass filled with fresh ice and add your milk of choice as usual. Freezing this particular beverage is not recommended as the texture can become watery and compromised upon thawing.
