Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce low sodium preferred
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
  • 2 tablespoons water (if using cornstarch)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
Optional Garnish
  • Sesame seeds
  • chopped green onions

Equipment

  • Medium Bowl
  • Large skillet or wok
  • Small Bowl

Method

  1. Pat the chicken pieces dry with paper towels. Season generously with salt and black pepper. This helps create a better sear and adds a foundational layer of flavor.
Salt and black pepper, 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, ketchup, and rice vinegar. Add the minced ginger and minced garlic to the sauce mixture. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.
1/4 cup honey, 1/4 cup soy sauce, 2 tablespoons ketchup, 1 tablespoon rice vinegar, 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger, 3 cloves garlic
  3. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Once the oil is shimmering, add the seasoned chicken pieces in a single layer, working in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding the pan. Cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until the chicken is golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
2 tablespoons olive oil, 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
  4. Reduce the heat in the skillet to medium. Pour the prepared honey garlic sauce into the skillet. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally.
  5. If you prefer a thicker sauce, in a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and water until smooth. Slowly pour this mixture into the simmering sauce while whisking continuously. Continue to cook and whisk until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency, which should take about 1-2 minutes.
1 teaspoon cornstarch, 2 tablespoons water
  6. Return the cooked chicken pieces to the skillet with the thickened sauce. Toss gently to ensure each piece of chicken is evenly coated with the glossy honey garlic sauce. Cook for another 1-2 minutes, allowing the chicken to heat through and absorb the sauce’s flavors.
  7. Remove from heat. Serve the Honey Garlic Chicken Dinner immediately over steamed rice, your favorite noodles, or alongside roasted vegetables. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions for an extra pop of color and flavor.
    Sesame seeds, chopped green onions
