Method
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a mini donut hole pan or a baking sheet. If using a baking sheet, you can also line it with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, protein powder, granulated sugar (for the dough), baking powder, and salt. Ensure all ingredients are well combined to distribute the leavening agents evenly.1 cup all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup unsweetened protein powder, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 2 teaspoons baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt
- In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the milk, Greek yogurt, large egg, and vanilla extract until smooth and well incorporated. This will form the base of your donut hole batter.1/2 cup milk, 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt, 1 large egg, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can result in tougher donut holes. A few small lumps are perfectly fine.
- The batter will be quite thick. You can either spoon the batter directly into your greased mini donut hole pan cavities, filling each about two-thirds full, or use a piping bag for neater results. If using a baking sheet, drop rounded tablespoons of batter onto the prepared sheet, leaving some space between each one.
- Bake for 8-12 minutes, or until the donut holes are puffed up and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. The exact baking time will depend on your oven and the size of your donut holes.
- While the donut holes are baking, melt the unsalted butter in a small microwave-safe bowl or in a saucepan on the stovetop. In a separate shallow bowl or plate, combine the granulated sugar (for the coating) and ground cinnamon. If you prefer a sweeter coating, you can add the optional confectioners' sugar to this mixture.1/4 cup unsalted butter, 2 tablespoons granulated sugar, 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar
- Once the donut holes are baked, let them cool in the pan for a minute or two before carefully transferring them to a wire rack. While still warm, but not hot, dip each donut hole into the melted butter, ensuring it's fully coated. Then, immediately roll the butter-coated donut hole in the cinnamon sugar mixture until evenly covered.
- Your High Protein Cinnamon Sugar Donut Holes are best enjoyed warm! Serve them immediately for the freshest taste and texture.
Notes
These donut holes are best enjoyed fresh. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1-2 days, or refrigerate for 3-4 days. Reheat gently in a toaster oven or conventional oven at a low temperature.
