- Stack your corn tortillas and cut them into uniform wedges. A pizza cutter or a sharp knife works best for this. Aim for about 8 wedges per tortilla, similar to how you'd cut a pizza. The uniformity helps them cook evenly.6-8 Corn Tortillas
- In a large bowl, gently toss the tortilla wedges with your chosen oil. Ensure each wedge is lightly coated – you don't want them greasy, just slightly glistening. If using, sprinkle your salt and any optional seasonings (garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, cumin, paprika) over the oiled wedges. Toss again to distribute the seasonings evenly.6-8 Corn Tortillas, 1-2 Tablespoons Olive Oil or Avocado Oil, 1/2 Teaspoon Salt, 1/4 Teaspoon Garlic Powder, 1/4 Teaspoon Onion Powder, 1/2 Teaspoon Chili Powder, 1/4 Teaspoon Cumin, Pinch Smoked Paprika
- Set your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Allowing the air fryer to preheat ensures your chips begin cooking immediately and achieve optimal crispness.
- Working in batches, arrange the seasoned tortilla wedges in a single layer in the air fryer basket. It's crucial not to overcrowd the basket, as this will steam the chips instead of crisping them. You may need to cook several batches depending on the size of your air fryer.6-8 Corn Tortillas
- Cook for 6-10 minutes, or until the chips are golden brown and crispy. Halfway through the cooking time (around 3-5 minutes), carefully shake the basket or use tongs to flip the chips. This ensures even browning and crisping on all sides. Keep a close eye on them as they can go from perfectly crispy to burnt very quickly in the final minute.
- Once cooked, carefully remove the chips from the air fryer basket. Transfer them to a wire rack to cool slightly. They will continue to crisp up as they cool. Serve immediately with your favorite salsa, guacamole, or queso dip.
Notes
Store completely cooled chips in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3-4 days. For longer storage, freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat in the air fryer at 300°F (150°C) for 1-2 minutes to regain crispness.
