Ingredients

Pulled Chicken Ingredients
  • 3 lbs Boneless, skinless chicken breasts About 4 medium breasts
  • 1 cup BBQ Sauce Your favorite style (sweet, smoky, or spicy)
  • 1/2 cup Chicken broth or water
  • 1 tablespoon Brown sugar Optional, for deeper sweetness
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt Or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon Black pepper Freshly ground preferred
Serving Suggestions
  • 6 Hamburger buns Or slider rolls
  • 1/2 cup Coleslaw Optional topping

Method

Instructions
  1. Place the chicken breasts evenly in the bottom of a 4 to 6-quart slow cooker.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the BBQ sauce, chicken broth, brown sugar (if using), smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  3. Pour the sauce mixture evenly over the chicken breasts in the slow cooker.
  4. Cover and cook on LOW for 7 to 8 hours, or on HIGH for 3.5 to 4 hours, until the chicken is cooked through and easily shreds.
  5. Carefully remove the cooked chicken breasts from the slow cooker and place them in a large bowl. Use two forks to shred the chicken completely.
  6. Return the shredded chicken to the slow cooker. Stir thoroughly to coat the chicken completely with the remaining sauce.
  7. Allow the chicken to sit in the sauce on the 'Keep Warm' setting for an additional 15 minutes to absorb maximum flavor before serving hot on buns with coleslaw, if desired.

Notes

For an extra kick, add 1 teaspoon of your favorite hot sauce or a pinch of cayenne pepper to the sauce mixture. If the final sauce is too thin, you can remove the chicken and simmer the sauce on the stovetop until reduced.
