Course: Appetizer

Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh strawberries washed, hulled, and patted completely dry
  • 8 ounces good quality semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil optional, for smoother melting
Assorted toppings
  • finely chopped nuts pistachios, almonds
  • sprinkles
  • flaky sea salt
  • shredded coconut

Equipment

  • Microwave-safe bowl
  • Parchment-lined baking sheet

Method

  1. Ensure your strawberries are thoroughly washed and completely dry. Any residual moisture can cause the chocolate to seize. Leave the stems on for a pretty presentation and an easy dipping handle.
    1 pound fresh strawberries
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips and coconut oil (if using). Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well after each interval, until the chocolate is smoothly melted and glossy. Alternatively, you can use a double boiler method.
8 ounces good quality semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips, 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  3. Holding a strawberry by its stem, dip it about two-thirds of the way into the melted chocolate, allowing excess chocolate to drip back into the bowl.
    1 pound fresh strawberries
  4. Immediately after dipping, while the chocolate is still wet, gently press the strawberry into your chosen toppings like chopped nuts, sprinkles, or shredded coconut on a plate. For a touch of sophistication, a tiny pinch of flaky sea salt can enhance the chocolate flavor.

  5. Place the dipped strawberries on a parchment-lined baking sheet. You can also create swirls or designs with a contrasting chocolate if desired.
  6. Refrigerate the baking sheet for at least 15-20 minutes, or until the chocolate is completely set and firm.

Notes

Best enjoyed fresh within 1-2 days. Store leftovers in a single layer on a parchment-lined airtight container in the refrigerator.
