- Melt the unsalted butter in a medium saucepan over medium-low heat. It’s important to use medium-low heat to prevent the butter from burning.1/2 cup unsalted butter
- Add the minced garlic to the melted butter. Sauté the garlic for about 1-2 minutes, until it becomes fragrant but not browned. Browning the garlic can lead to a bitter taste, so keep a close eye on it.4-6 cloves garlic, minced
- Stir in the Old Bay seasoning, paprika, cayenne pepper, and the optional Worcestershire sauce and dried oregano. Continue to cook for another 30 seconds, allowing the spices to bloom and release their aromas into the butter.1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning, 1/2 teaspoon paprika, 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 pinch dried oregano
- Pour in the fresh lemon juice and add the chopped fresh parsley. Stir everything together well.2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice, 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- Let the sauce simmer gently for 2-3 minutes. This allows the flavors to meld together and the sauce to thicken slightly.
- Taste the sauce and add salt and freshly ground black pepper as needed. Remember that seafood seasonings like Old Bay already contain salt, so season cautiously.salt and freshly ground black pepper
Notes
This glorious Boiling Crab Sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. The flavors may even deepen and improve overnight! To reheat, gently warm the sauce over low heat on the stovetop, stirring occasionally, until it’s heated through. You can also microwave it in short intervals, stirring between each, until warm. If the sauce appears a little separated after refrigeration, a good whisk over low heat will bring it back to its creamy consistency. For longer storage, you can freeze the sauce. Allow it to cool completely, then transfer it to freezer-safe containers or bags. It will keep in the freezer for up to 2-3 months. Thaw it overnight in the refrigerator before reheating as described above.
