Instructions
- In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, and the entire packet of taco seasoning. Mix thoroughly until completely smooth and well combined. This forms the base layer.
- Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly into the bottom of a 9x9 inch serving dish or pie plate. Sprinkle 4 oz of the shredded cheese blend evenly over the cream cheese layer.
- In a separate skillet, cook the ground beef or turkey until browned. Drain off any excess grease thoroughly. Stir in the 1/4 cup of salsa to season the meat slightly.
- Carefully spoon the seasoned meat mixture over the cheese layer in the serving dish, spreading it out to cover the surface evenly. Chill this layered structure in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes to set.
- Once chilled, liberally top the dip with the remaining shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, the final 1/2 cup of shredded cheese blend, sliced black olives, and chopped green onions. Do not mix.
- Cover and refrigerate the finished dip for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld. Serve cold with tortilla chips, Fritos, or vegetable sticks.
Notes
This dip is best assembled 2-4 hours before serving for optimal chilling, though it can be made up to 24 hours in advance. If making ahead, leave off the lettuce and tomatoes until one hour before serving to prevent sogginess.
