Ingredients

  • 2 large apples (Honeycrisp, Gala, or Fuji) cored and cut into ½-inch thick fries
  • 1 tablespoon melted unsalted butter or coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar or maple syrup
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
  • Pinch salt
For Serving (Optional)
  • Caramel sauce
  • Whipped cream
  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Chopped nuts

Equipment

  • Air Fryer
  • Apple corer
  • Medium Bowl

Method

  1. Begin by washing your apples thoroughly. Core them using an apple corer or by cutting around the core. Then, slice each apple into ½-inch thick wedges, resembling french fries. Try to keep the thickness as uniform as possible for even cooking.
2 large apples (Honeycrisp, Gala, or Fuji)
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the melted butter or coconut oil, brown sugar or maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and a pinch of salt. Add the apple fries to the bowl and gently toss them until they are evenly coated with the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
1 tablespoon melted unsalted butter or coconut oil, 1 tablespoon brown sugar or maple syrup, ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon, ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg, Pinch salt, 2 large apples (Honeycrisp, Gala, or Fuji)
  3. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Arrange the coated apple fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket. It’s important to avoid overcrowding the basket, as this will steam the apples instead of crisping them. You may need to cook them in batches.
2 large apples (Honeycrisp, Gala, or Fuji)
  4. Cook the apple fries for 8-12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through the cooking time. The apples should be tender when pierced with a fork and slightly golden brown around the edges. Cooking time may vary depending on your air fryer model and the type of apple used.
2 large apples (Honeycrisp, Gala, or Fuji)
  5. Once cooked, carefully remove the apple fries from the air fryer. Serve them warm, as they are, or with your favorite toppings like caramel sauce, a dollop of whipped cream, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, or a sprinkle of chopped nuts for added texture and flavor.
2 large apples (Honeycrisp, Gala, or Fuji), Caramel sauce, Whipped cream, Vanilla ice cream, Chopped nuts

Notes

Best enjoyed immediately. Can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days. Reheat gently in the air fryer at 300°F (150°C) for 3-5 minutes. Freezing is not recommended.
