- 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour (for sauce)
- 3 cups milk (for sauce)
- 1/4 teaspoon salt (for sauce)
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, optional (for sauce)
- 1/2 cup sugar (for sauce)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- In another bowl, whisk eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
- Pour wet ingredients into dry and whisk gently until combined. Do not overmix.
- Preheat waffle iron and cook batter according to manufacturer’s instructions until golden and fluffy.
- Repeat until all batter is used.
- For the sauce: In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
- Whisk in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Slowly whisk in milk until smooth, then simmer 5-7 minutes until thickened.
- Stir in sugar, salt, and nutmeg if using.
- Serve waffles hot, generously topped with the white sauce.
Notes
For extra flavor, add a pinch of cinnamon to the waffle batter or top with fresh fruit alongside the white sauce.
