Description
A traditional Hutterite dessert known as Zucker Pie (Sugar Pie). Simple, sweet, and creamy with a flaky crust and caramelized sugar filling.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pre-made pie crust (or homemade)
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- 2 tablespoons butter (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the pie crust in a pie dish.
- In a mixing bowl, cream together sugar and butter (if using).
- In a separate bowl, whisk heavy cream, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- If using butter, combine the cream mixture with the creamed sugar and butter. Otherwise, whisk sugar directly into the cream mixture until dissolved.
- Pour filling into prepared pie crust, spreading evenly.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes, until filling is set but slightly jiggly in the center. Cover crust edges if browning too quickly.
- Cool completely on a wire rack to set properly.
- Slice and serve once cooled.
Notes
For best texture, allow the pie to cool completely before slicing. Optional butter adds richness but can be omitted for a lighter version.
