Description

A traditional Hutterite dessert known as Zucker Pie (Sugar Pie). Simple, sweet, and creamy with a flaky crust and caramelized sugar filling.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pre-made pie crust (or homemade)
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the pie crust in a pie dish.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together sugar and butter (if using).
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk heavy cream, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. If using butter, combine the cream mixture with the creamed sugar and butter. Otherwise, whisk sugar directly into the cream mixture until dissolved.
  5. Pour filling into prepared pie crust, spreading evenly.
  6. Bake for 45-50 minutes, until filling is set but slightly jiggly in the center. Cover crust edges if browning too quickly.
  7. Cool completely on a wire rack to set properly.
  8. Slice and serve once cooled.

Notes

For best texture, allow the pie to cool completely before slicing. Optional butter adds richness but can be omitted for a lighter version.
