Description

Fluffy, tangy, and packed with flavor—these Muffins with Amish Starter are the perfect morning treat or anytime snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup active Amish starter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Optional Toppings: Cinnamon sugar, fresh blueberries, chocolate chips, chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the active Amish starter, sugar, vegetable oil, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix well.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with dry ingredients. Mix just until combined.
  4. Gently fold in optional toppings like blueberries, chocolate chips, or chopped nuts, if desired.
  5. Line a muffin tin with paper liners or grease it well.
  6. Fill each muffin cup about 2/3 full with the batter.
  7. If using cinnamon sugar, mix sugar and cinnamon separately and sprinkle on top.
  8. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Let muffins cool in the tin for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Avoid overmixing the batter. Store muffins in an airtight container for up to 3 days at room temperature or freeze for up to 3 months.
