  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)
  • Optional: chopped nuts, cinnamon sugar, or chocolate glaze

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together starter, flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until no lumps remain.
  3. Add vegetable oil, milk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Stir until just combined—do not overmix.
  4. Fold in chocolate chips gently until evenly distributed.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  6. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a skewer comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
  7. Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
