Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup Amish Friendship Bread starter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup milk

- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)
- Optional: chopped nuts, cinnamon sugar, or chocolate glaze
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
- In a large bowl, mix together starter, flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until no lumps remain.
- Add vegetable oil, milk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Stir until just combined—do not overmix.
- Fold in chocolate chips gently until evenly distributed.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a skewer comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
- Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
Notes
Use high-quality cocoa powder for richer flavor. Avoid overmixing to keep the bread soft. Customize with chopped nuts, peanut butter swirls, or dried fruits.
