Description

A moist and delicious Caramel Apple Crumb Cake with a buttery crumb topping and caramel drizzle, perfect for fall.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour, divided (2 cups for cake, 1 cup for crumb)
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar, divided (3/4 cup for cake, 3/4 cup for crumb)
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar (for crumb)
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon, divided
  • ¾ cup (1 ½ sticks) cold unsalted butter, cubed (for crumb)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or blend), peeled, cored, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Caramel sauce for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. Make the Crumb Topping: Combine 1 cup flour, ¾ cup granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon and cold butter. Cut in butter until coarse crumbs form. Refrigerate.
  3. Prepare Apple Filling: Combine chopped apples, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Set aside.
  4. Make Cake Batter: Whisk remaining 2 cups flour, ¾ cup granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Add Eggs, Milk & Vanilla: Beat with an electric mixer until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Assemble: Pour batter into pan. Layer apples. Sprinkle with crumb topping.
  7. Bake: 45-50 minutes, or until skewer comes out clean. Tent with foil if browning too fast.
  8. Cool & Drizzle: Cool completely before drizzling with caramel sauce.
  9. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

For the best results, use cold butter for the crumb topping and do not overmix the cake batter. Using a mix of sweet and tart apples will add a good flavor.
