This Applesauce Substitute Amish Bread is a healthier, oil-free take on the classic comfort recipe, swapping applesauce for Greek yogurt while keeping all the cozy, sweet flavor you love.

- 3 cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg, lightly beaten
- 1 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt (as applesauce substitute)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- Optional: cinnamon-sugar mixture, chopped nuts, oats
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan or line with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together egg, milk, Greek yogurt, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Pour batter into prepared pan and spread evenly.
- Sprinkle optional toppings like cinnamon-sugar, oats, or nuts, if desired.
- Bake for 55-60 minutes or until a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean. Tent with foil if browning too quickly.
- Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
Notes
Store tightly wrapped at room temperature for up to 3 days, refrigerate up to a week, or freeze for 2-3 months. Reheat by toasting or baking covered in foil at 350°F for 10-15 minutes.
