Description

Soft, buttery Amish Sugar Cookies with a crackly sugar-dusted top—classic comfort in every bite.


Ingredients

  • 2¾ cups (345g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1¾ cups (350g) granulated sugar, plus extra for rolling
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat softened butter and 1¾ cups sugar until light and fluffy (about 3–4 minutes).
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually blend in flour mixture on low speed until a soft dough forms. Do not overmix.
  6. Scoop tablespoon-sized dough portions and roll into balls.
  7. Roll each ball in extra granulated sugar to coat.
  8. Place balls 2 inches apart on baking sheets. Bake for 8–10 minutes, until edges are just set and tops are cracked.
  9. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, use room-temperature butter and eggs. For extra sparkle, roll cookies in sanding sugar. Store in airtight container for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
