Description

Craving a cookie that’s a monster in size and flavor? These Amish Monster Cookies are packed with peanut butter, oats, chocolate chips, and more for a monstrously delicious treat.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons hot water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 1/2 cups rolled oats (old-fashioned)
  • 1 1/2 cups peanut butter (creamy or crunchy)
  • 2 cups chocolate chips
  • 1 cup M&Ms (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and shortening until fluffy. Add sugars and beat for 2-3 minutes.
  3. Beat in eggs one at a time. Stir in vanilla extract.
  4. In a small bowl, dissolve baking soda in hot water and add to the mixture.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk flour and salt together.
  6. Gradually mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients until just combined.
  7. Stir in oats, peanut butter, and chocolate chips. Fold in M&Ms if using.
  8. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto baking sheets, spacing about 2 inches apart.
  9. Bake 10-12 minutes, until edges are golden and centers are set.
  10. Cool on sheets for a few minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
