Description

This moist and flavorful Amish Apple Fritter Bread is packed with tender apples, warm cinnamon, and topped with a sweet vanilla glaze—perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar (for swirl)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon (for swirl)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tbsp milk (for glaze)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease or line a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla extract.
  4. Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk to the wet mixture, beginning and ending with the dry. Mix until just combined.
  5. Fold in diced apples gently.
  6. In a small bowl, mix melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon for the swirl. Drop spoonfuls on top of the batter and swirl with a knife.
  7. Pour into the prepared loaf pan and bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  9. Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla for glaze. Drizzle over warm loaf.

Notes

Use firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for the best texture. Don’t overmix the batter to keep the loaf light and tender. Tent with foil if the top browns too quickly.
